Born in Ireland, Co.Down perhaps. There are various birthdates given. The record of her death shows her birth as 1842, whilst on the 1881 Census of Canada it is 1841. Parents were David Boyd and Lilly Laughlin, possibly born in Scotland. In August 1873 Mary and two children, Margaret Ann and ?Samuel arrived in Quebec from Londonderry Ireland via the S.S.Polynesian. Family lore has it that the family was to take up residence in Berlin, Ontario where her husband Samuel was to assume a Teaching position. However he died before they left Ireland. However on Margaret Ann's Wedding certificate it looks as if her father's name was Patrick not Samuel. Mary and the two children appear on the 1881 Census and Patrick's d.o.b is given as 1866, Ireland. Mary's occupation is listed as a Dressmaker.
Mary had three more marriages during her lifetime. On June 5th 1883 she married Mr.Christian Glady in Waterloo, Ontario. Her son in law W.H.Stevens was witness to the marriage.
