Monday

well, I've recently had a string of good luck, and nice packages in the mail. I've received photos of my great uncle Benjamin, when he was a young man, and as he got older. And, I've got a lovely lady in PA, who sends me lots of cool newspaper articles about all different sides of my family....

still trying to track down obits and death notices of my Fletcher clan, but I'm working on it. :)

internet genealogy

I admit to doing my genealogy almost purely by internet, and sheer good luck. By using the forums on various genealogy sites, I have found 5 distant cousins who have helped immeasurably, through their sharing of family histories and enthusiasm.

I have also been able to find history on my grandparents by learning from my father where they worked as teachers, and contacting the alumni staff, and then getting in touch with the archivists with the schools, either as paid staff or volunteer.  Next week, I may receive my grandfather's school records from 7th-9th grade. I feel like I'm beginning to put together a big puzzle, yet I know I have many pieces to find, yet alone fit in.

And I have contacted the Hospital where one of my Great Uncles
worked for probably fifty years, simply by figuring out if the hospital still existed, which it did just under a different name.

Yes, Google is my friend!

intro blog

I'm Kate, in Charlottesville, Virginia. I've been working on family's genealogy since May. I'm researching the Steeres from Rhode Island, and families from Pennsylvania, the Evans, Fletchers, and Golzes.

Of course I have a few brick walls, but I'm hopeful they will crumble. :)
